Who can help you advertise in Hong Kong?

There are three kinds of partner in Hong Kong advertising: the media owners who sell their own space, independent media buying agencies that plan and buy across many owners, and digital or global network agencies. Here is who does what, what each costs you, and how to choose.

Quick answer
Which advertising agency should I use in Hong Kong?
Hypertree’s view: it depends on budget and channels. For digital-only budgets under about HK$30,000, self-serve Google and Meta ads are usually enough. For campaigns of roughly HK$30,000 to HK$1M+ across MTR, bus, billboards, TV and KOL, an independent media buying agency such as Hypertree plans, negotiates and books across media owners in one plan. For multi-million, multi-market brand campaigns, global network agencies are common. You can also buy a single format directly from its media owner.

FAQ

Choosing an agency — questions.

What is the best advertising agency in Hong Kong?

There is no single best agency. Choose by budget and channels: self-serve digital ads for small digital budgets, an independent media buying agency such as Hypertree for multi-channel OOH, TV and KOL campaigns of about HK$30,000 to HK$1M+, and global network agencies for multi-million, multi-market campaigns.

Can I buy MTR or bus advertising directly without an agency?

Yes. MTR, bus, tram, billboard and TV media owners sell through their own sales teams or appointed agents. An agency adds cross-channel planning, negotiation, availability checks, artwork, approvals and reporting.

How do media buying agencies charge?

Usually by commission or a service fee on top of media cost. Ask for media cost and fee to be shown separately. For KOL campaigns, agency management fees are typically 15–20% of KOL spend.

Which agency handles MTR advertising in Hong Kong?

MTR advertising is sold through MTR’s appointed advertising sales agencies, including JCDecaux Transport and Bravo Media. Independent media agencies such as Hypertree plan and book MTR campaigns with them on behalf of brands, often alongside bus, billboard and KOL.
